Harleys Heartbeats + Heatwaves
Northampton has been a hub of creatives for a while now, with recent events including the Wallgames movement.
It's every photographer's dream to have cool backdrops for photos, and social media has been flooded with creative work inspired by it.
I couldn't resist, and I was overdue a catch-up with a fellow archer who's had my back while I've been learning the ropes over the past year or so. I convinced him to let me photograph his pride and joy: a vintage Harley-Davidson. I say "vintage" lightly as an elder millennial, because it hurts to admit that 2000 was that long ago. I yearn for the days of the millennium bug, turning 18, and a life that I thought was hard at the time but, in reality, wasn't. Ha.
James has been riding his beloved bike, among others, for years. The bike may be younger than me, but it still teaches me a thing or two about the advantages of two wheels over four. I was never that cool.
A rebel of sorts, James rides despite being warned that life might be a little more delicate than planned after serious heart surgery as a child and a lifelong membership of the warfarin club as a result. But, with respect, life would be pretty boring if we always played by the rules, eh?
As a cancer survivor, I totally understand how you can take on board medical advice while still shoehorning in a little bit of fun. Sadly, that doesn't apply to my dinger of a car.
I could do with the occasional reminder that life is short, so we caught up, put the world to rights, snapped a few photos and vowed to get back on the shooting line as indoor winter archery approaches.
As the bike settles into hibernation for winter and awaits a few modifications, it's back to the daily dinger for both of us. Here's to catching up, car park coffees and the summer that somehow turned into a heatwave.
